Introduction

At large-scale events, smooth entry can make or break the attendee experience. Our client, a Event Ticketing Platform, faced delays at venue gates because attendees had to search through their emails to find tickets before scanning. We solved this challenge by integrating Apple Wallet passes—leading to faster check-ins and happier attendees.

Curious how we implemented this technically? Read our step-by-step technical guide here.

The Problem

  • Attendees often scrambled through email inboxes to find tickets.
  • This caused long queues at venue gates.
  • Staff had to repeatedly ask guests to open the correct email, slowing everyone down

Our Research & Insights

We began by analyzing actual user behavior:

  • Using Google Analytics, we discovered that the majority of our client’s audience used iPhones.
  • This meant Apple Wallet would give us maximum impact with the least friction.
  • Apple Wallet provides instant access to tickets directly from the lock screen, perfect for fast-moving event entry.
  • Google Wallet was also evaluated, but we found that Google Chrome and Gmail already detect .pkpass files natively. This meant Android users could also open the same passes seamlessly—without requiring separate Google Wallet integration.

This insight allowed us to skip redundant Google Wallet development, saving our client significant costs and engineering time.

The Solution

We built Apple Wallet support using PassKit passes (.pkpass) that contained:

  • Event name, venue, and date.
  • Attendee Details for quick verification.
  • A QR code for scanning at gates.
  • Branding elements for a professional look.

The Impact

  • Entry wait times reduced by over 50%.
  • Attendees experienced smoother check-ins.
  • Staff handled crowds more efficiently.
  • Client saved money by avoiding unnecessary development for Google Wallet

Conclusion

This case study shows how smart technology choices + research-driven insights can dramatically improve the attendee experience while saving costs.
